POEM offers peer support, resources, referrals, a sense of community, education, and advocacy opportunities to help moms and birthing persons in Ohio feel heard, understood, and empowered.
Our peer-led support groups provide a space for moms and birthing persons to connect and find support with one another. POEM group facilitators are trained in evidence-based peer support group skills and co-facilitate each group with another trained facilitator. We are in need volunteers to co-facilitate bi monthly groups or serve as back-up facilitators when the need arises.
POEM volunteers are people who have experienced and recovered from a mental health complication that occurred during pregnancy, postpartum, or due to a pregnancy or infant loss.
This opportunity is on going. Volunteers serve twice a month on second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Tuesdays, from 12pm to 1:30pm at Mid-Ohio Psychological Services, 2238 S. Hamilton Rd. #200, Columbus, OH 43232

Mission Statement
Mental Health America of Franklin County (MHAFC) is here to help guide you on your road to better mental health. Finding your way through the mental health system can be difficult. We provide a personal, knowledgeable approach to referring those in need to the appropriate services. Mental health issues affect 1 in 4 individuals each year. Unfortunately, only a mere 16% of those individuals will seek treatment. We are here to help you! MHAFC is dedicated to promoting mental health, preventing mental disorders and raising awareness and understanding of mental health issues through advocacy, education and support services in our community. We are a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1956. MHAFC envisions a just, humane and healthy society in which all adults and children receive the help they need, are well informed and are accorded respect, dignity and the opportunity to achieve their full potential, free from stigma and prejudice.
Description
The Pro Bono Counseling Program is a new service that links volunteer mental health professionals in the community with those who need but cannot afford mental health counseling.
