Senior Friendship Centers seeking friendly volunteers with a passion for teaching and a genuine desire to help others succeed. Flexibility in teaching methods to cater to seniors' needs is essential.

DUTIES:

Fluent in English :

· As you will be teaching English, you need to have a strong command of the language, including grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and writing skills.

Patience and Empathy:

· Working with learners who may struggle with language acquisition requires patience and understanding. A positive attitude is essential.

· You should be willing to work with students from various backgrounds and at different levels of proficiency.

Communication Skills:

· The ability to explain concepts clearly and adjust your language to the learners' level.

· Strong interpersonal skills to engage with students and create a welcoming and comfortable learning environment.

Cultural Sensitivity:

· Be open-minded and respectful of different cultures. Understanding the cultural background of your students can be very helpful in teaching English effectively.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Develop and deliver lessons that focus on language skills, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuances.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, assignments, and observations to tailor instruction effectively.
  • Assist students in overcoming language barriers and adapting to English-speaking environments.
  • Foster an understanding of cultural differences to create an inclusive learning atmosphere.

  • Follow SFC guidelines and policies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with seniors.
  • Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Friendly, flexible, able to handle challenges, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity for all individuals and groups.

Senior Friendship Centers is a non-profit organization serving older adults in Sarasota, Lee, DeSoto and Charlotte Counties.
servicing the vital needs of older persons, addressing the concerns of loneliness, health and isolation for the elderly. Senior Friendship Centers is THE safety net for close to 10,000 seniors, providing programs and services such as caregiving resources, adult day services, dining centers, home-delivered meals, exercise classes, lifelong learning, economic assistance, socialization, friendly visitors, and more. The support of generous community partners, agencies and donors enables us to help more seniors in need.
