Independent Volunteers create bonds with one specific child at the Center. They are teamed with a child following Orientation, based on their areas of interest, skill sets, availability and compatibility with the child. While Independent Volunteers are encouraged to get to know any or all of the children at the Center, their primary responsibility is to develop a friendship with a child who will share that same gift of friendship in return. Volunteers in this position may create a visiting schedule that fits in their life and enables optimal time with the child. Assignments can be scheduled any day of the week within visiting hours. While we ask for some basic outline of a schedule, there is flexibility available.

Mission Statement

As people of Providence, we reveal God's love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service.

Providence Child Center carries out this mission by providing a nurturing community, based on Christian values, in which children are treasured and guided toward their fullest potential.

In each of the educational, developmental, rehabilitation and nursing care programs, we attend to the needs of the whole child and the child's family. We believe each child's life and development is significant and deserving of our best thought, energy, and compassion.

In an environment of creative collaboration, the Child Center endeavors to assure the rights and respond to the needs of families and children in our society.

Description

The Center for Medically Fragile Children is a program of Providence Child Center that actively uses volunteers to enrich the lives of severly disabled children. We are a 58-bed pediatric long term care facility that is home to children aged birth to 21 that have sever medical conditions that cause them to need nursing care. The Recreational Activitis and Volunteer Department ensures that each child is given a full and joyous childhood, despite abilities. Volunteers work 1:1 with children helping to adapt play to enhance the care of support to the child. Volunteers are key components in making sure each child is able to have a full chidlhood.
