As a Patient Visit Volunteer, you will play a vital role in offering emotional support and companionship to patients receiving hospice and palliative care. Your presence can bring comfort, joy, and a sense of connection to those facing life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers in this role will provide friendly visits, read books, and offer a listening ear to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit patients in their homes or care facilities, offering companionship and emotional support.
- Engage in meaningful conversations and provide a sense of comfort and calm during visits.
- Assist with light activities such as reading, playing games, or listening to music.
- Offer respite to family members by providing them with a break while ensuring the patient's well-being.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of patients and their families at all times.
- Document visit details as needed, following Blue Summit Hospice and Palliative Care protocols.
Who We're Looking For:
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient individuals who enjoy helping others.
- Comfortable with engaging in conversations and providing emotional support.
- Able to commit to a consistent schedule and maintain reliability in visits.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience in healthcare, social work, or caregiving is a plus but not required.
- Volunteers who can drive to patient locations (or virtually, if applicable).
