Transcribing Recipe Cards

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: ARMENIAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA INC

  • 3 people are interested

The project, Armenians of Whitinsville, has recipe index cards that have been contributed and digitized for the website, www.armeniansofwhitinsville.org. In order for the recipes and ingredients to be searchable, they need to be transcribed into the description field of each recipe. It can be a lot of fun not only seeing the old recipes that were handed down over time, but also the many American recipes, especially of the 50's through the 80's that are peppered into people's favorites. If interested, please let us know. I think a few hours a week would be excellent if you could spare the time. The recipe part of the website is here: https://armeniansofwhitinsville.org/items/browse?type=18

The site itself is a celebration of a community, but also a look at the diaspora and the process of Americanization. Recipes, in an unexpected way, have been an excellent way to think about this.

Mission Statement

The Armenians of Whitinsville is an archival project being sponsored by the Armenian Cultural Association of America. Our mission is to both celebrate a special community in Massachusetts and look at the Armenian diaspora some 100 years after the Genocide.

Description

The group behind the Armenians of Whitinsville is a group of volunteers who are building out a platform for families to tell their story and contribute everything from photographs to recipes to audio and video oral histories, anything they might feel captures the character of their family. Our job is to help them gather this information, categorize it and upload it onto our site.
