Opportunity Description: Earth Day, held on April 22 each year, was established to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Since the original event in 1970, Earth Day has become Earth Week and has spread from the United States to being celebrated internationally with more than 1 billion people in more than 193 countries participating in a wide range of environmental activities.
This year, the Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) is hosting an Earth Month event in the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. The Basin is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Los Angeles District and is primarily managed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. At Earth Month Habitat Restoration & Celebration, 400-500 dedicated volunteers will join FoLAR and the California Native Plant Society to remove 15,000+ gallons of invasive vegetation, restoring 1 acre of land at the Reserve. Volunteers will then participate in educational activities like a nature walk led by the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society, making native seed balls with FoLAR, hopping aboard FoLAR’s River Rover mobile museum, and exploring informational tables from partners.
*Please sign up for free through FoLAR's website at: https://support.folar.org/event/habitat-restoration-day-and-earth-month-celebration/e664425
*If you have any questions, please email FoLAR directly at contact@folar.org .
