Volunteer Graphic Designer - Support Literacy & Build Your Portfolio!

Are you a graphic designer looking to expand your career, diversify your portfolio, and support a meaningful cause? Join our volunteer graphic design team and help create impactful book covers and advertising for the Hundred Stories Project. hyperlink to our webpage

In this volunteer role, you’ll collaborate with authors, publishers, and illustrators to design book covers, promotional materials, and advertising assets. Your work will help amplify the voices of incarcerated authors while enhancing your graphic design portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design book covers for print and digital formats, including for bookshops, libraries, and online retailers.
  • Collaborate with authors, publishers, and design teams to bring book concepts to life.
  • Research the genre and market to create designs that resonate with the target audience.
  • Develop typography, graphics, and visual elements that align with the book’s theme and branding.
  • Ensure consistency across book cover design, advertising, and promotional materials.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • 2+ years of experience in graphic design, preferably with book cover design.
  • Familiarity with the publishing industry and book design trends.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and a collaborative mindset.
  • A passion for literacy advocacy and a desire to support incarcerated authors.

The United Black Family Scholarship Foundation is a 501c3, nonprofit organization that operates in Oklahoma, California, and New York. Established in 2014, it is a student and volunteer ran organization that was founded by incarcerated activist and author Ivan Kilgore. Our Vision: We believe everyone has a right to education that empowers them with solutions to social and economic problems caused by poverty and racism.
