Tasks may include distributing food items from our free market, restocking food in our different departments, helping shoppers with their bags, and cleaning. We require a background check for volunteers working in our Kid's Corner but not in other areas. Distribution Times are: Tuesdays | 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm or 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm Saturdays | 7:30 am - 11:00 am Food Sorting happens: Fridays | 8:30 am - 10:30 am We are located at 924 E Clarke Street Milwaukee WI 53212. We ask that volunteers park on the street because the parking lot does not belong to Kinship. All training and orientation happen at the start of your first volunteer shift and every department has a volunteer team lead that communicates all roles and responsibilities. The Food Center is located in the Riverwest neighborhood but our volunteers and shoppers also come from the surrounding neighborhoods. If you are in the area, volunteering at Kinship is an amazing way to meet your neighbors! Time Commitment: 3 hours per week. Food Distribution Tuesdays | 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm or 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm Food Sorting Fridays | 8:30 am - 10:30 am Food Distribution Saturdays | 7:30 am - 11:00 am
Requested length of service: At least 3 hours is required to volunteer at the Food Center on distribution days but only 2 are necessary for food sorting on Fridays. Many volunteers will commit to multiple volunteer slots a week which is closer to 6 hours per week.

Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
