Full job description
Job Summary: Primary function is to provide assistance and support without compensation to hospice patient/family/hospice team.
The volunteer provides patient care and support services according to his/her experience and training and in compliance with organization policies.
- Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group amid various settings: home care; respite; inpatient, bereavement and/or administrative; office duties.
- Participates in general orientation.
- Serves the patient and family/caregiver under guidance of Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager or as a part of the administrative team.
- Serves as substitute family/caregiver in the home performing activities that the volunteer has been prepared for and has agreed to perform. The volunteer may do homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as well.
- Documents as educated and instructed maintaining confidentiality.
- Meets all health requirements set by Advanced Hospice.
- Participates in volunteer support groups and/or educational inservices.
- Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Assignment of other duties (as needed) directed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
1. Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.
2. Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program.
3. Previous volunteer experience may be helpful.
4. If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order
5. Demonstrates interest in the welfare of the ill and elderly.
6. Transportation: Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto liability insurance if providing direct patient care.
7. Criminal History: Must agree to and pass a criminal history check.

Description
Sacred Mission Hospice is a Physician-led care based in San Antonio driven by ethics and driven by compassionate care. The founder Linda May, MD is a fellowship-trained Hospice and Palliative care and Geriatrics physician who manages the care of all of her patients by asking "what would I do if this were my family member. Care managed by a triple boarded hospice physician who performs house calls. Our goal is to provide the upmost care and comfort to our patients.
