Empty Bowls is SVDP’s signature fundraising event, raising critical funds to assist individuals and families who are experiencing hunger, homelessness, and poverty in our community. Empty Bowls is a two-part affair: a cozy, upscale event on Friday evening, Candlelight & Clay, and the traditional family event on Saturday which attracts nearly 1,000 visitors of all ages and features activities and entertainment for the whole family.

Date: Friday, April 11 & Saturday, April 12

Location: Maryland State Fairgrounds

Perfect for: Families, individuals, businesses, and groups

Minimum age to volunteer: 16 years old; 14-15 (accompanied by an adult)

Frequency: One time

St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore is a leading provider of community services to people suffering from the effects of hunger, homelessness, and poverty in the Baltimore region.

We help thousands of people with resources to help them move beyond the challenges of poverty and achieve their full potential. We believe strongly that everyone has tremendous potential, and that we all have a role in eliminating systemic disadvantages so that all people are guaranteed fair treatment and the opportunity to live in decent, safe, and affordable housing, receive quality education, be employed at a fair wage, have access to health care and healthy food, share in prosperity, and reach their full potential.

Currently, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore runs 22 programs aimed at alleviating the impact of poverty. These programs focus on five key areas of need:

  3. Employment Services
  4. Child & Family Services
  5. Veteran Services

REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
  • Must be at least 16
  • 1 shift (most shifts are 5 hours)
  • We are looking for high energy volunteers who enjoy greeting event attendees and can jump in and work with little supervision. This volunteer opportunity requires a lot of movement, being on your feet/getting around, and some light lifting.
