While this opportunity is primarily virtual, we strongly encourage candidates from NJ to apply (for additional in-person tutoring opportunities).

SoulPhamm is a nonprofit youth development organization that includes activities in sports, the performing arts, education and community service. We draw young people from across NJ and NYC.

We are looking to recruit a handful of individuals to serve on our Virtual Tutoring Corps (VTC) until the end of May. Tutors can return for our next academic season if they choose.

The majority of our students are in high school and struggle with subjects like algebra, chemistry, geometry, ELA and other subjects. Some can also use assistance with test prep. We have a handful of students in grades 6-8 who may also need assistance.

VTC will operate virtually, with tutors logging into Zoom on Mondays and Thursdays starting in March from 6:30pm-8pm. Our "Zoom Center" (We'll come up with a better name at some point), will include breakout rooms designated by subject and students will be assigned. Tutors can expect to work with one, but no more than five students per session.

To organize this, we also have an online gathering group for our tutors (using the BAND platform). On BAND, I post the Zoom links on the calendar and tutors will receive an alert an hour beforehand. On dates where I know that no one will be in attendance, I will post that information to the feed, so that you won't need to sign in.

There is a brief volunteer application that we ask volunteers to sign. Outside of that, this is a pretty simple process. Please specify your subject of expertise when you reach out.

About SoulPhamm Inc

Location:

7000 Hadley Road, Suite 1177, South Plainfield, NJ 07080, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.

Description

Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.

SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
