Each year hundreds of volunteers support the Blue Ridge Parkway by maintaining trails, welcoming visitors at campgrounds and visitor centers, protecting fragile ecosystems, and so much more. Help us recognize the hard work of Parkway volunteers by creating designs that capture volunteer’s spirit of stewardship and the beauty of the Parkway. This is a unique opportunity to build your portfolio while supporting public lands!
All products resulting from volunteer services related to this position will become the property of the United States, and as such, will be in the public domain and not subject to copyright laws. The NPS will attribute authors by their legal name whenever possible. Amateur and professional graphic designers are welcome to apply.
Duties:
- Work with the Volunteer Program to learn more about the Parkway’s natural and cultural resources and various volunteer programs.
- Create at least one final design to be used on stickers and shared with Parkway volunteers.
Qualifications:
- Designer will have experience in their chosen medium and is responsible for all materials necessary to create their designs.
- Applicants will be asked to submit a sample of their artwork. Links to downloads are preferred.
- This position can either be fully remote or hybrid, with the option to meet in-person with park staff at Park Headquarters in Asheville.
Equipment:
- Work will be completed on personal computer, or similar, that has Adobe Creative Cloud products or similar (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop). Volunteer will work with Supervisor to determine what application(s) will be used.
- Volunteer will not be provided government computer or design products.
