Upper Colorado River Campground and Area Hosts - Pumphouse Recreation Area

ORGANIZATION: U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management

Hosts Duties: Light to moderate physical duties. Hosts will serve as representatives at popular sites for the Bureau of Land Management. They will interact with public visitors and commercial outfitters, conduct area fee monitoring and compliance, restroom/campground cleaning and maintenance, and boat ramp traffic coordination. Sites having campgrounds will include conducting Recreation.gov campsite reservation check-in’s and check-out’s. Camp Hosts will also have the opportunity to assist Park Rangers on various projects and monitoring along the 16-mile river corridor.

Dates Needed: Hosts are needed for a minimum of 5 months between May 1st to September 30. Hosts are expected to volunteer at least 32 hrs. a week and are required to work on weekends and holidays. Depending on the host site mid-week volunteer days may vary.

Work Environment: Hosts will be working outdoors at an altitude of 7,000 ft. and will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions with temperatures ranging from 30-90 degrees.

Volunteer Requirements:

- Provide their own camper or RV

- Be able to work outdoors standing for long periods of time in variable weather conditions

- Be able to effectively communicate with a diverse visitor base and commercial outfitters

- Possess a valid state driver’s license and complete a defensive driver and Utility Terrain Vehicle trainings for Agency vehicle

and/or Utility Terrain Vehicle (side by side) use

- Lift 25 lbs.

- Volunteer cannot be employed by an outfitter who has a permit with the Kremmling BLM Office

Reimbursement: Volunteers will be provided a camper pad with electricity, camper/RV propane, and $40 per-day for volunteering at least 8 hrs. per day/32 hrs. a week (4 days; 5 days is preferred) and consistently completing assigned duties.

Camp Host Locations:

Pumphouse Recreation Area: Located approximately 13 miles southwest of Kremmling, CO along the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway. Pumphouse is a boat put-in point for private and commercial rafting, kayaking, and fishing trips on the Colorado River. Pumphouse has three boat ramp sites, 18 individual campsites, 2 group campsites, trailheads, picnic areas and a Whitewater Park Wave feature. Electric, water, and sewer hook-ups and satellite are available for hosts. Pumphouse is the most popular recreation site in the Upper Colorado River Special Recreation Management Area and sees between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors between April and November. Volunteers will be provided with a radio to communicate with BLM staff and emergency personnel and are able to make Wi-Fi calls on cell phones through provided Starlink Internet.
