Position Overview:
Gentiva Hospice is seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join our volunteer team as Direct Patient Volunteers in Columbiana, AL. As a Direct Patient Volunteer, you will provide essential companionship and emotional support to patients in their homes, nursing facilities, and other care settings. You will work closely with our care team to enhance the comfort and quality of life for patients, while also offering respite for family caregivers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spend time with patients providing companionship, conversation, and emotional support
  • Read to patients, listen to their stories, or simply provide a comforting presence
  • Assist patients with non-medical needs, such as helping with simple tasks or offering a friendly smile
  • Support caregivers by offering short-term respite, giving them a break from their caregiving duties
  • Follow all safety and infection control procedures and guidelines
  • Attend training and orientation sessions provided by Gentiva Hospice

Requirements:

  • A compassionate and caring demeanor
  • The ability to listen and provide emotional support
  • Respect for the privacy and dignity of patients and their families
  • Reliability and commitment to scheduled volunteer hours
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Successful completion of background check and training (provided by Gentiva Hospice)
