ORGANIZATION: Lapeer County Veteran Services
Please visit the new page to apply.
Our department is seeking caring individuals to add to our team of driver that transports local Veterans who have served our country to their appointments at locations including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Saginaw, Flint, Yale and other nearby locations.
This is one way to give back to the heroes who selflessly served to protect the freedoms of our country.
We have 4 vehicles, 1 of which is wheelchair accessible (training available).
This is a flexible schedule. Appointments are M-F (no weekends or major holidays). You choose which days/trips you drive. Drivers 55+ qualify for mileage reimbursement from their home to our office and back home. This is non-taxable income. (you use our vehicles to drive to appointments). Drivers must pass a driving and criminal record background check.
We celebrate our drivers yearly with a special recognition dinner.

Mission Statement
To promote through advocacy, the well-being of Lapeer County Veterans, their spouses, families, and eligible dependents. Our Department works in conjunction with local, State and Federal Agencies to ensure access to ALL available benefits due the Veteran.
Description
Established in 1969, the Lapeer County Veterans Services department was created to assist local Veterans and their families in obtaining Veterans benefits from local, State, and Federal agencies. The department was also established to assist impoverished Veterans and those Veterans who need assistance with the needs of everyday living.
Veterans Services is the networking center for several of the Veteran organizations within the county. Our staff members answer (to the best of their ability) questions that the Veteran and/ or family member may have, in addition to referring them to the proper agency for additional support. The Administrative Assistant conveys pertinent information to the Veterans organizations as it relates to upcoming events, legislative issues, or concerns we feel are important to the Veteran and/ or their families. In addition to our own Veteran Service Officers, we also host the service of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). Together these service officers assist Veterans and their families in filing claims, filling out and completing necessary VA forms, reviewing and discussing possible benefits and guiding the veteran through the process.
Some of the possible benefits include (but are not limited to): VA Health benefits, service-connected, non-service connected compensation, Veterans, surviving spouse Pensions and/ or their dependent children (if applicable) benefits, VA burial benefits, Home/ Small business applications for Certificates of Eligibility, Educational Benefits and VOC Rehab Enrollment.
