Take initaive in your community by finding your voice in an easy and fun way! Our Chalk About It program uses youth leaders across the world to spread messages of hope for children who are unhoused, and also to spark convesation on the topic to make room for lasting change. As a chalker, you will go into your community and choose a public place where other people can see and connect with your message. You could chalk a call to action asking more people to be aware of the child housing crisis, or you could write a simple statement about why every child deserves somewhere safe to live. The possibilitys are endless! This is also an amazing opprtunity to spend time with other leaders who are passionate about activism for child rights; chalk with your friends, have fun, and create a lasting impact on your community with your own words.

About Hearts Against Homelessness

Mission Statement
Hearts Against Homelessness provides support for youth struggling with housing through physical and monetary donations, and advocates for proper education surrounding the topic of the housing crisis. We aim to reduce the stigma surrounding housing issues for youth, so they are able to receive the aid they need in order to thrive. Our team focuses on building genuine connections with youth, and educating communities on the housing problems youth face.
Description
Hearts Against Homelessness was founded because of a high school student who found herself without a safe place to live halfway through her secondary education. She had never been educated on the resources available to her, and was forced into multiple unsafe housing situations before she made her way to a shelter that offered her support and community. We work so that one day, no youth will be left to their own devices like she was. Our education and awareness programs work to teach youth in high school about what may cause homelessness, and the services around them that can help should they ever need it. We also make monthly distributions of necessities to communities in the British Columbia Lower Mainland to help make living a little bit easier for those not currently in shelters.

REQUIREMENTS
- This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
- Must be at least 12
- Chalking could take as little as 15 per message, depending on how many you'd like to do, or the place you have chosen. There is no minimum amount for how many messages you chalk!
- Before chalking messages, we kindly ask you to fill out our form describing the message you'd like to chalk so we can be sure it aligns with our values. We also ask that volunteers include our Instagram account at the end of their chalks.
