Volunteers are needed to support this event for teens. Volunteers will participate in a zoom call prior to event to go over logistics and receive designated duties. Duties include Helping with minor set ups. Greet and check participants and presenters in. Hand out swag items to participants. Sit in on workshops to support presenters. Pass out lunch. Help set up classrooms by moving tables and chairs. Pass out event surveys. Help with minor clean up and breakdown.

The aim of the Teen Self-Love Conference (TSLC) is to provide a safe forum where youth, ages 13-19, come together to discuss issues important to them, be educated, empowered, and inspired with tangible tools to create solutions. The TSLC will include experiential learning workshops with a social emotional learning approach. Social-emotional learning (SEL) helps youth work on things like coping with feelings and setting goals. It also helps with interpersonal skills like working in teams and resolving conflicts. SEL can help kids who learn and think differently talk about their challenges and build self-esteem. This conference is an opportunity to provide needed relief from student trauma surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic. YWEP will incorporate overcoming adversity and building resilience, supports of the healing process in young people who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other traumas. This conference offers strategies to help teens understand the effects of adversity and toxic stress, and teaches them skills to soothe and calm their mental and physical stress responses in response to experiences during the unprecedented onset of COVID-19. This inclusion provides equitable services that addresses the physical, mental, and social emotional needs of participants.

Description

Youth World Education Project (YWEP) was established in 2012 as a response to the voices of disconnected youth needing support and preventative measures in the Phoenix metro area. YWEP is a collection of child-focused, evidence-based programs that aims to collectively build and strengthen the family unit by bridging the gap between parental involvement, education, and workforce development. Youth World Education Project is a holistic youth development organization. We are transforming youth through Parent Initiatives and positive Youth Development Programs. We are dedicated to the well-being and development of youth in grades 3-12 from father absent low- income households.
