About The Mirror Effects:
The Mirror Effects is a fiscally sponsored initiative dedicated to increasing civic engagement through legal education. Our mission is to make legal knowledge more accessible to underserved communities by providing informative resources, workshops, and publications.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Legal Column Staff Writer who is a high school or college student with a passion for legal writing and civic engagement. In this volunteer role, you will contribute articles to our legal education platform, explaining key legal concepts, current legal issues, and "know your rights" resources in an accessible and engaging manner. Writers also have the opportunity to author a white paper on a relevant legal or policy issue.
Responsibilities:
- Research and write articles on legal topics for a general audience
- Break down complex legal concepts into easy-to-understand language
- Collaborate with editors to ensure clarity, accuracy, and engagement
- Meet deadlines and contribute regularly to our publication
- Ensure all content aligns with The Mirror Effects' mission of civic education
- Option to research and author a white paper on a relevant legal or policy issue
Requirements:
- Must be a high school or college student
- Strong writing and research skills
- A passion for legal education and civic engagement
- Ability to communicate complex topics in simple terms
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
