ORGANIZATION: JOSHUA WAVE

Why You? Why The Joshua Wave?

You are someone who thrives on connection-someone who believes in the power of empathy, resilience, and second chances. When you see someone struggling, you don’t turn away-you lean in. You understand that dignity isn’t given; it’s rediscovered through opportunity, encouragement, and community.

At The Joshua Wave, we believe that homelessness is a temporary and solvable problem. We equip our Neighbors (people experiencing homelessness) with entrepreneurial skills and pathways to sustainable income through Miller University and our Thirst for Change initiative.

If you are someone who believes in meeting people where they are, offering hope, and guiding them toward real transformation, this is your chance to be the bridge between hardship and opportunity.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Local Outreach Specialist, you’ll be the first point of contact for many Neighbors, helping them see the possibilities beyond their current situation. Your work will be grounded in T3 (Trauma-Informed Care) and OARS (Motivational Interviewing) methods, ensuring each interaction is respectful, empowering, and purposeful.

Outreach & Relationship Building:

  • Walk the streets, visit encampments, and connect with Neighbors who could benefit from Miller University or Thirst for Change
  • Build trust and rapport through consistent engagement, active listening, and motivational interviewing techniques
  • Hand out essential resources (brochures, water, hygiene kits) while initiating meaningful conversations

Onboarding & Referral Support:

  • Once comfortable, assist Neighbors in completing intake surveys to assess their needs, strengths, and readiness
  • Work closely with local nonprofits, shelters, and service providers to receive referral applicants into our programs
  • Coordinate follow-ups to ensure Neighbors stay engaged and supported throughout their journey

Collaboration & Logistics:

  • Communicate with our team on Slack to share updates, success stories, and challenges
  • Work independently and alongside a team during scheduled outreach events
  • Drive to different locations to deliver resources, meet with Neighbors, and attend partner meetings

Bonus Skills (Not Required, But A Huge Plus!):

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certified - Helping you better respond to crisis situations
  • Trauma-Informed Response Training - Ensuring every interaction is one of empowerment, not harm

What We’ve Accomplished So Far

The Joshua Wave has already disrupted the traditional approach to homelessness by building Miller University, where Neighbors learn to create self-sustaining businesses. Our Thirst for Change initiative transforms panhandling into a vendor-entrepreneurship model, providing immediate income while leading Neighbors to long-term stability.

In 2025, our strategy focuses on:

  • Expanding outreach efforts to increase program participation
  • Strengthening partnerships with local nonprofits to ensure sustainable impact
  • Increasing corporate & individual donations to fund full-time on-the-ground staff

As a Local Outreach Specialist, you will be a key part of this transformation-empowering individuals and shaping the future of how homelessness is addressed in Colorado Springs.

Join us. Be the Wave of Change. Let's rewrite the story together.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide dignity to the undervalued, while creating an atmosphere where people can feel comfortable donating knowing that 100% of their donations go straight to the cause.

Description

We Believe in creating an atmosphere where the public can feel invited to donate because they understand that their donations will directly help someone in need. We are first focusing in our local community and in time extending our reach to cities nationwide and across boarders. Eradicating homelessness, abolishing human slavery, and establishing communities through building homes, are just a few of the projects that are close to our hearts.

Our aim is to become an international hub where self-sustaining satellite locations employ and house the homeless while bearing fruit for divergent charitable ventures. The partnerships we undertake are fulfilling a vision to live in a world without poverty, famine and injustices that can be prevented when we all collaborate as a team.
