Share the wonder of Natural Bridge National Monument’s three majestic natural bridges and unique, remote desert environment. Work alongside a small paid staff at a visitor center information desk, rove park overlooks and trails, collect fees, and assist with the campground.
We are looking for an individual or couple to serve at least 32 hours/week for a minimum of three months with ability to serve up to 6 months.
Housing available: A room in shared housing.
Major Duties
Work may include:
- Staffing the visitor center up to 30 hours/week, following routine opening, closing and operating procedures.
- Answering visitor questions about the park; providing orientation to the park and the surrounding area; providing accurate, updated information including appropriate safety and resource protection concerns in the visitor center, at park overlooks and on park trails.
- Assisting with the implementation of an online reservation system in the campground; checking reservations, posting and removing reservation signs on campsites; answering questions about campground procedures, the park and surrounding areas when roving the campground; monitor visitor compliance with all campground rules and regulations and report to the appropriate parties.
- Recording visitor statistics on a daily basis.
- Providing supervisor with recommendations for improving the visitor center operation as necessary.
- Working on weekends and holidays if needed.
- Perform light trail monitoring using a provided standard.
- ONLY IF REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK COMPLETED: Collecting fees for permits or park entrance passes.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Volunteer must be able to learn quickly and work independently as part of a team composed of other volunteers and/or employees, within Park boundaries. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities needed are:
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and consistently be courteous and polite to visitors.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the National Park Service.
- Ability to learn quickly and retain basic knowledge.
- Skill at oral communication and tactful discussion of controversial subject matter.
- Ability to operate basic computer systems and electronic devices.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions, ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding of expectations.
- DESIRED: Previous experience collecting fees for the National Park Service.
