Introduction:
Supporting the Taylor House is a safe transition home for young women ages 18-24. The volunteer spends time with the young women mentoring or helping out in several ways:
Supervision: The volunteer will report directly to the Program Manager or Director.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Preparing rooms for a new resident’s arrival ("Team Welcome").
Providing rides to resident’s for appointments, grocery shopping etc. (*as a good practice text the resident the day before as a reminder).
Ensure representation of the resident’s best interest (at appointments and otherwise).
Assistance with creating resumes; holding 'mock’ interviews; researching employment opportunities.
Tutoring in classes of your expertise/background.
Introducing residents to new entertainment and culture.
Sharing fun activities and adventures while creating memories.
Being extra help when called upon if a resident is ill (especially evenings/weekends).
Teaching cooking skills and helping to prepare meals.
Teach cleaning skills necessary for independence ("Team Home Care").
Help in all areas possible for the annual Gala.
Aid in procuring donations necessary to resident’s day to day needs.
Report any concerns or findings to the Program Manager or Director.
Maintain confidentiality about the resident. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT THE GIRL’S "STORY" with anyone outside of the house.
Time Commitment
Volunteers are required to spend at least several times a week with the girl.
Volunteers are required to contact the Program Manager if they have an appointment with the girl and cannot make it.
Volunteers are required to make a six month commitment to the Taylor House.

Expectations & Necessary Skills
Ability to keep girls’ backgrounds confidential.
Ability to relate and respect girls from various backgrounds, origins, sexual orientation and cultures.
Ability to transport self & girls safely.
Ability to be objective and report anything necessary to the Program Manager or Director.

Our goal is to bridge the transition to adulthood by empowering residents to become well rounded, self sufficient and confident individuals. The residents will first complete all fundamental criteria for basic living and then continue to maintain the discipline and good habits needed to step out on their own. Our staff, board members and volunteers continually strive to deliver the best possible experience and direction to make their stay and transition successful.
