Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of lonely and isolated seniors?
Society of Sharing is seeking dedicated individuals like you to provide telephone support and reassurance to seniors as Telephone Reassurance Volunteers.
Position: Telephone Reassurance Volunteer - Senior Volunteers Needed
Volunteers needed: Multiple
Type: Volunteering from home
Time commitment: Up to 2 hours, further determined by the client, volunteer and the Program Coordinator; duration will be between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday
Reports to: Program coordinator
Position summary:
As a Telephone Reassurance Volunteer, check in with our clients through a weekly telephone conversation to ascertain their physical and mental well being, engaging in lively conversation, and providing a sense of security, all while demonstrating kindness and respect.
Volunteer duties and responsibilities:
- Regularly call clients as determined by the client, volunteer, and Program Coordinator.
- Provide regular telephone contact to ensure the security of the client and their well being.
- Report any areas of concern to the Program Coordinator.
Volunteer skills and qualifications:
- Be 18 years old or older.
- Have a sincere interest in working with seniors and adults with disabilities.
- Possess sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by older adults.
- Exhibit patience, compassion, and a desire to help vulnerable and isolated seniors.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Ability to speak English and other languages is an asset.
- Strong telephone conversational and listening skills.
- Ability to identify the comfort level of clients and determine if assistance is needed.
- Excellent reassuring skills.
Other requirements:
- Vulnerable sector check.
- Proof of full vaccination or medical exemption certificate.
- 2 references.

- Will be provided.

Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers is a non-profit organization that improves quality of life, and reduces isolation and vulnerability among seniors and adults with physical disabilities, in the downtown Toronto community. We achieve this by providing friendly visiting programs, medical and shopping escort, telephone reassurance and group socialization with the support of our volunteers.
