Title: Workshop - General Repairs

Summary: Inspect and repair items to make them safe and usable by clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Use workshop tools (especially power tools) safely.

  • Determine if a damaged item is repairable or should be discarded

  • Salvage usable parts from discarded items

  • See if an item might be reconfigured to make it useful to clients

  • Assemble floor models, futons, etc.

  • Inspect finished items for safety and durability

  • Inspect electrical wiring/switches for lamps

  • Build/repair structures as needed throughout the facility

  • Keep the workshop neat and organized so it is a safe and efficient work area

  • Adhere to workshop guidelines and policies to help ensure personal safety and the safety of others



Qualifications:

  • Experience with general workshop repair

  • 18 years of age or older

Availability:

  • Saturday

Household Goods is an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Acton, MA that provides household goods, free of charge, to people in need.

Description

We accept donations of gently used household items that will help people make a home. Our volunteers receive, sort and distribute items to individuals and families from over 130 communities in eastern Massachusetts. As an organization staffed by volunteers, we depend on the generosity of community members for goods, time and financial support.
