Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

The Methow Valley Ranger District on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is currently seeking to fill up to 6 Volunteer Campground Host opportunities for the 2025 season. Positions start as early as June 1 and end in October at the latest. Dates of camp host positions vary depending on the site. Sites include Blackpine Lake, Loup Loup, Chewuch, Poplar Flat, Klipchuck and Lone Fir.

A free campsite will be provided for the Host(s), who must have a self-contained RV or trailer. Tools and supplies will be furnished by the Forest Service.

Methow Valley, Washington

With its big valleys, open wild spaces, high ridges and beautiful rivers, the Methow Valley Ranger District's 1.3 million acres extends from near the town of Twisp Washington to the crest of the Cascade Mountains in the Pasayten Wilderness. The area is renowned for camping, hiking, fishing, rock climbing and horseback riding. Each of the above available campgrounds are unique. Blackpine Lake is remote and features a beautiful non-motorized lake which is popular for swimming, fishing and paddling. Klipchuck and Lone Fir are within the beautiful and popular North Cascades Scenic Corridor between the spectacular Chewuch River and Twisp River respectively, and both offer tranquil forested campsites along the river. Loup Loup is situated between the Methow and Okanogan valleys amongst western larch trees, and offers nearby mountain biking, horseback riding and hunting. USFS staff will work with applicants to determine which campground will be the best fit.

The hosts will be responsible for helping USFS staff take care of their assigned campground and are expected to work 5-hours per day. This includes routine maintenance such as site and restroom cleaning, being available to provide information to visitors and encouraging campground rule compliance.

A subsistence reimbursement allowance is available and personal vehicle mileage will be reimbursed for work activities. Each host site includes propane, water and septic hookups. Only the Loup Loup Campground host site has electric hook-ups, but a generator or solar equipment may be available upon request. Most sites do not have cell phone coverage, but a USFS radio and training will be provided. The closest towns for grocery shopping and resupply are Winthrop, Twisp or Mazama, depending on the campground.

Individual adults, couples or small families are welcome. Start and end dates may vary based on seasonal conditions such as snow and length of commitment may be flexible for the right candidates.
