ORGANIZATION: California Science Center

The Surveyor Volunteer works on gathering feedback/data from our visitors experience for various departments throughout the California Science Center. Volunteers will be able to engage with various departments within the museum, provide a voice for our many visitors, learn what is needed to satisfy our visitor experience, and develop communication skills. Youth Volunteers will be able to gain community service hours for college applications and future references. Human Subjects training will be provided to conduct research for the California Science Center.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each task satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Conduct surveys in assigned areas.
  • Follow Coves survey procedures.
  • Remain polite, courteous, and helpful at all times.
  • Exercise active listening skills and positive body language through smiling, sustaining eye contact, keeping good posture, and speaking clearly with guests, staff and volunteers.
  • Contact staff as needed for support.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Comfortable approaching visitors.
  • Must demonstrate ability to act professionally and communicate well with others.
  • Must be comfortable and exhibit enthusiasm relating to our visitors.
  • Highly motivated with a strong desire to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures including attendance policies and attire guidelines.
  • Work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and team player.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Multilingual fluency is a plus.

Description

The California Science Center is a modern facility with all-new interactive exhibits and programs, and a seven story IMAX Theater with 3D capabilities. This exciting environment makes for an extraordinary learning experience for guests of all ages. Interested teens and adults can provide assistance in several different ways including stimulating an interest in science by facilitating and encouraging hands-on learning in our educational exhibits; by assisting our curators with the plant and animal life; or by providing our guests with a warm welcome and answering questions. As a California Science Center volunteer you can enjoy many special benefits including free parking, specialized group or individual training, previews of exhibits, invitations to special events and activities. Volunteers also have an opportunity to earn free Explorer Level Membership. The minimum age for volunteers is 16. Opportunities are available 7 days a week and experience is not necessary, only the desire and willingness to be of service, to learn, and share what you learn with our guests.
