About Shanti Bhavan

Location:

12819 SE 38th St. #48, PMB 192, Bellevue, WA 98006, US

Mission Statement

As a registered non-profit in the US and India, we provide high-quality education from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. We promote academic achievement, instill values of global citizenship, and emphasize leadership development. Our program gives individual attention to every aspect of a child's upbringing: emotional development, mental and physical fitness, social and cognitive growth, and academic excellence. The support extends beyond pre-K-12 education as we strive to ensure graduates continue to excel in higher education and employment. In total, this is 17 years of intense intervention per child -- from age 4 to 21.

Description

Shanti Bhavan is a residential school exclusively for children born into India's lowest socioeconomic class located in Tamil Nadu, India. Those born into poverty remain entrapped in systems that perpetuate inequality due to a lack of social protection, access to quality education, and low wages. In fact, it would take seven generations for an individual born into a low-income family to reach a mean income. Shanti Bhavan breaks the cycle of poverty in a single generation.

We measure our impact based on how our students perform multiple years after completing the Shanti Bhavan program. Shanti Bhavan boasts a 97% graduation rate, where 98% of our graduates complete college or university degrees across the United States, Europe, Canada, and Asia. Our alums work in finance, business, IT, media, communications, NGOs, engineering, medicine, and teaching in India, UAE, and Europe. Many pursue competitive careers at multinational firms.100% of our graduates and alums earn more in the first five years of their careers than their parents will in a lifetime and give between 20-60% of their salaries to their families, communities, and other children in need.
