Description of Duties : The Computer/Tech Coach will help adults bridge the digital divide by assisting navigating the online world. Guide participants through the process of using computers, applying for jobs and updating resumes. Your role will help empower participants to gain the digital skills they need to connect with potential employers and manage their job search.
Impact : The Computer/Tech Helper efforts will increase quality of service delivery and community member participation. In this role, the Computer/Tech Coach will support the GES team to successfully engage participants in Computer Resource Hub activities that increase job readiness skills and access to local jobs that support them to obtain employment.
Specific Responsibilities : Interact with community members onsite at our Computer Resource Hub. Provide one-on-one and small group support to adults in learning how to use computers and the internet effectively. Help participants set up email accounts, create and maintain resumes, and use job search engines and websites. Provide guidance on how to safely navigate job application process, including how to upload resumes and apply for positions. Troubleshoot basic computer issues and help participants feel confident using digital tools. Create a supportive and friendly environment to make learning enjoyable and stress-free
Skills/Experience/Resources/Certifications Needed : Basic understanding of computer programs (email, job search websites). Patience and clear communication skills when working with adults. A compassionate attitude toward helping others succeed in a digital world. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word. Ability to type 40 words per minute. Must be bi-lingual (English and Spanish). Experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Must demonstrate cultural competence and be sensitive to vulnerable populations.
Dress Code: Business casual attire (i.e. pants, blouse) and closed toe shoes required. Shoes must provide safe and secure footing.
Time Commitment : Flexible hours based on availability, typically 2-3 hours a week or 2-3 hours a month on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Covid-19 Vacc ina tion and Masking: Regardless of vaccination status, masking is optional. MEND will continue to provide masks for volunteers.
