POSITION: Assistant Pride March Lead
REPORTS TO: March Lead, Pride Director, Community Engagement & Volunteer Services Manager
SUMMARY: The Assistant March Lead supports the Pride March Lead in the planning, execution, and evaluation of the Sacramento Pride March. This role involves assisting with logistics, participant coordination, volunteer management, and ensuring compliance with safety and accessibility standards. The Assistant March Lead works closely with the Pride March Lead, volunteers, and Pride Committee members to ensure a successful and inclusive event.
Essential Functions:
1. Volunteer Coordination:
o Assist in recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers to support march operations, including check-in, registration, and route management.
o Supervise volunteers during the event, ensuring they are deployed effectively and receive guidance as needed.
o Act as a point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions and resolving issues as they arise.
2. Participant Support:
o Assist with the organization and management of march contingents, including registration, placement, and flow during the march.
o Support the Pride March Lead in hosting informational sessions for march participants, providing logistical guidance and answering questions.
o Collaborate with the Pride March Lead to ensure VIPs, such as Grand Marshals, are supported and positioned appropriately.
3. Logistical Support:
o Aid in implementing the march logistics plan, ensuring a steady and organized flow of contingents.
o Collaborate with the Accessibility Lead to verify that the march route and related infrastructure are ADA-compliant.
o Work with the Health & Safety Lead to ensure safety protocols are in place for all march participants and spectators.
4. On-Site Operations:
o Oversee volunteer check-in areas, ensuring they are well-organized and easily identifiable.
o Support the setup and maintenance of water stations and ensure waste is managed responsibly in collaboration with the Environmental Sustainability Lead.
o Monitor the march route during the event to address real-time issues and ensure smooth operations.
5. Communication and Collaboration:
o Maintain clear communication with the Pride March Lead, volunteers, and Pride Committee members throughout the planning and operational phases.
o Provide advance notification to businesses and residents along the march route in coordination with the Community Engagement & Volunteer Services Manager.
o Participate in post-event debriefs to provide feedback and suggestions for future improvements.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Passion for the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s mission and a commitment to follow all organizational policies and procedures.
2. Experience working in event coordination, volunteer management, or community organizing.
3. Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
4. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
5. Familiarity with ADA requirements and a commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
6. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in an intersectional environment.
Requirements:
1. Physical ability to walk the parade route multiple times during planning and execution, stand or sit for extended periods, navigate tight spaces, and lift up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
2. Successful completion of a criminal history background check. Applicants with a criminal history, except for violent crimes, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
3. Commitment to a drug-free workplace. Volunteers must not report for service under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
4. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, evidence of a scheduled vaccination appointment, or an approved medical or religious exemption is required before the first day of service.
