Furniture Repair Bank is a nonprofit effort that rescues worn, torn, and broken furniture from ending up in the landfill, restores its value and beauty, and provides it to people in need. Join our community of empathic, creative, and handy individuals!

We are conduct furniture collection events at the North and South Transfer Stations, preventing furniture waste at the source. Dates will vary each month. Our truck, tents, and volunteers will be stationed outside the transfer station to divert residents who are planning to throw away usable furniture. Volunteer responsibilities include communicating the program to people lined up in their vehicles, and/or offloading furniture from the customer vehicle and into our truck. After the event we will deliver the collected items to our workshop in SoDo, Seattle, two blocks south of T-Mobile Park.

Volunteers may join for the collection event on-site at the Transfer Stations for a morning or afternoon shift, or for just an hour at the end to unload the collected items at our SoDo workshop.

About Furniture Repair Bank

Location:

1914 Occidental Ave A, Unit C, Seattle, WA 98134, US

Mission Statement

We are building a community of mighty, courageous, and empathic individuals to rescue furniture from landfills and help low-income families and individuals, refugees, and others starting over. We work on the intersection of sustainability, community, and equity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment that thrives on reducing waste, empowering individuals, and uplifting communities. We envision a future where furniture waste is eliminated, repair skills are fostered for generations, and vulnerable households have access to quality furniture.

Description

At Furniture Repair Bank, we are reducing the climate impact of furniture waste by promoting the circular economy of repair and redesign. We began as pilot program of Zero Waste Washington when we opened our doors in June 2023 and established as an independent nonprofit in January 2025!

We empower individuals and build a resilient community by teaching repair and refinishing skills to volunteers, talents that are less frequently passed down through the generations in our increasingly disposable economy. Our volunteers and donors learn that worn or broken furniture does not have to be destined for a landfill. Once restored to like-new condition, the items are gifted to community members in need, such as domestic violence survivors, people emerging from homeless situations, refugees, young adults aging out of foster care, and others in need of timely help.

In 2024, we refurbished and distributed over 1,000 furniture items to 108 households across Greater Seattle. This amazing feat was accomplished through the support of thousands of volunteers who joined us as individuals or during group volunteer events. Join our mighty team of handy individuals to use the skills you already have, or learn some new ones from our team!
