Looking for human subject models to participate in the handheld Point of Care Ultrasound Immersion Course offered in conjunction with the 25th Annual Southwest Nephrology Conference on March 20-21, 2025 at We-Ko-Pa Resort & Conference Center. Models will be utilized for hands-on practice of newly learned ultrasound techniques. Those who volunteer will be scheduled based on availability, however if able, it is preferred to volunteer both days. All volunteers are provided the opportunity to audit the conference educational sessions when not used as model, can partake in conference meals while present and will be given a tote bag. Models are needed during hands-on sessions of practice throughout the day, with lots of breaks in between when attendees are in the lecture portion.
Recommendations for Models:
- Male subjects (easier to get cardiac windows in male models because need to be shirtless for ultrasound access to chest & abdominal regions)
- Wear loose fitting clothing
- Skin not sensitive to gel- ultrasound gel can be a skin irritant for some individuals
- Need to feel comfortable with healthcare professionals practicing ultrasound on you
The Southwest Nephrology Conference is a locally hosted annual meeting for healthcare professionals working with renal/kidney patients in dialysis and transplant. This meeting is provided as an update on care and innovations in these care areas to positively impact patient outcomes. We offer this to help support our mission to provide awareness, assistance and hope to Arizonans at-risk and impacted by kidney disease. This meeting is also key to the continuing education of many of the attendees. Volunteers are vital to the success of this program. Because we have a small staff, we rely on volunteers to assist with many administrative and customer facing tasks, as well as other unique needs such as these models.
