ORGANIZATION: Special Olympics Florida, Inc.

Join us on Friday, April 4th, to help set up for the event, or come volunteer on Saturday, April 5th at Mainland High School as our athletes compete in soccer, cycling (off-site at Seabreeze High School), bocce, cheerleading, athletics, basketball & tennis! Volunteers will help with staging, escorting, timing, congratulating all athletes, and more!

We will also need assistance with awards as well as setting up and breaking down the event.

Please review the job skills below and sign up for the shift that works best for you. Please plan to stay your entire shift.

Logistics and Operations:

  • ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs
  • walk, sit or, stand for extended periods
  • distribute materials and supplies
  • ability to set up and break down tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment
  • distribute lunches and beverages

Athletics:

  • Ability to organize people and/or paperwork
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Competition Manager
  • Escort Athletics to a lane, off the track, and to the field
  • Ability to operate stopwatch, tape measure, and record times
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • walk, sit, or stand for extended periods

Bocce:

  • Ability to organize people and/or paperwork
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Competition Manager, court monitors, and coaches
  • Escort and assist Athletes to, onto, and off Bocce courts
  • Ability to record scoring
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • walk, sit, or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to organize people and/or paperwork
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Competition Manager
  • Escort and assist Athletes with cycles
  • Ability to operate stopwatch and record times
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • walk, sit, or stand for extended periods

Tennis

  • Ability to organize people and/or paperwork
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Competition Manager
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • walk, sit, or stand for extended periods

Cheerleading:

  • walk, sit, or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to present athletes with awards in a celebratory style

Volunteers will receive:

  • A FREE Special Olympics Florida volunteer T-Shirt
  • A record of community service hours provided upon request. Print all documents beforehand as we will not have any on site.
  • Free lunch

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Complete a Class B Volunteer Form
  • Bring a photo ID to the event
  • Volunteers under 15 MUST be accompanied by an adult

Description

Special Olympics Florida provides sports training and Olympic-style competition to more than 60,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities throughout the state. Special Olympics Florida is a Level I Accredited Program (highest level of accreditation granted by SOI) and is divided into 11 area programs, which cover over 55 counties.
