Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment
  • Strong Communication & Networking Skills - Ability to engage with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Event Planning & Organizational Skills - Experience or willingness to help plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events.
  • Basic Administrative & Tech Skills - Comfortable using spreadsheets, email, and social media for donor outreach and tracking fundraising progress.
  • Ability to Work Independently & in a Team - Self-motivated while also collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
  • Creativity & Problem-Solving - Generating innovative ideas to improve fundraising efforts.
  • Passion for Community Impact - Commitment to supporting the mission and fundraising efforts of the organization.
  • Time Management & Reliability - Ability to meet deadlines, attend meetings, and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Experience in Fundraising (Preferred but Not Required) - Prior experience in donor relations, grant writing, or nonprofit fundraising is a plus.
Who will be served by this assignment?
  1. At-Risk Youth in Akron (Grades 6-12, Ages 11-18) Students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, with a focus on Black and low-income communities. Youth facing academic and social barriers, including those struggling with self-esteem, violence, or lack of mentorship. Middle and high school students enrolled in the SWAG (Students With A Goal) program, which provides social-emotional learning, academic mentorship, and life skills development.
  2. Families & Community Members The fundraising efforts will help provide resources, enrichment opportunities, and safe spaces for students. Families in need will benefit from additional support services made possible through fundraising efforts.
  3. SWAG Program & Staff Funds raised will enhance programming, secure necessary materials, and support operational sustainability. Volunteers, mentors, and staff will have access to more tools to positively impact youth development.
What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? The Fundraiser Assistant role will help at-risk youth in Akron by securing resources for academic mentorship, social-emotional learning, and life skills programs. Funds raised will support counseling services, enrichment opportunities, and safe spaces for students. This volunteer service strengthens community engagement, enhances program sustainability, and ensures long-term growth, allowing SWAG to continue empowering youth and providing positive alternatives to harmful behaviors. What specific skills will the volunteer need? Include any requirements for lifting, standing, or other physical requirements. The Fundraiser Assistant will need strong communication, event planning, and organizational skills to engage donors and coordinate fundraising efforts. Basic tech skills for tracking donations and promoting events are helpful, along with creativity and teamwork. Physical requirements may include standing for moderate periods, lifting up to 10 lbs, and assisting with event setup and takedown. Dependability and time management are essential for success in this role.

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
