Why volunteer as a Big Sister mentor?

As many as 1 in 3 children in Metro Vancouver don’t have a single adult in their life that they can turn to for help. Becoming a mentor lets you build meaningful connections with youth while enhancing your leadership and communication skills. You’ll join a supportive community passionate about making a difference and experience the joy of empowering the next generation.

As a Big Sister mentor, you can expect to grow alongside your mentee and develop many positive personal attributes and professional skills, including :

  • · Communication
  • · Problem solving
  • · Cultural awareness
  • · Empathy
  • · Conflict Resolution
  • · Working well under pressure
  • · Quick decision making
  • · Gain experience working with youth

Mission Statement

Enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people.

Description

Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland enables transformational mentoring relationships to inspire, ignite and unleash the power and potential of youth. Big Sisters core mentorship programs offer a safe space for self-identifying girls, non-binary, transgender and gender-diverse youth to work with caring mentors to realize their full potential.

It takes just one stable, committed adult in a young person’s life to make a difference. By matching youth with adult volunteers in quality one-to-one and group mentoring relationships, Big Sisters ensure girls and gender-diverse youth can access the support they need to thrive.
