Founded in 2002, Cloudbridge Nature Reserve is a private, non-profit cloudforest reserve in the Talamanca mountains of Costa Rica. Beginning with the purchase of degraded farmland, Cloudbridge has been actively reforesting the area in order to connect the forests of Mt. Chirripó National Park with adjacent nature reserves and forested areas. Beyond reforestation work, Cloudbridge is also committed to environmental education and conducting research on the unique and diverse cloudforest ecosystem. With an abundance of wildlife and stunning natural beauty, Cloudbridge provides ideal conditions for ecological research. Volunteers are an important part of this project, especially for their support out in the field with researchers.
Cloudbridge Nature Reserve is looking for research interns and volunteers to conduct studies of the ecology, flora and fauna of the cloudforest on an ongoing basis. Mission Statement
loudbridge offers a rich experience in a beautiful and biodiverse part of the world, whether you want to do your own research; contribute to some of our existing, ongoing research projects; or contribute your existing skills and learn new ones while volunteering or conducting your own research. While at the reserve, you’ll meet and work with like-minded people from all over the world, each with a passion for the environment and their own experiences and expertise to share. The volunteer or intern experience gained here often furthers academic or career goals. However, you do not need a background in biology or environmental studies in order to contribute. Whatever your skills are, we can put them to good use!
Description
Cloudbridge is a private nature reserve in Costa Rica. It was created to preserve and reforest an important gap in the cloud forest adjoining the Chirripo National Park, on the slopes of Mt. Chirripo, the highest peak in Costa Rica.
The main purpose of the reserve is to help rebuild a part of the tropical cloud forest, bridging a gap between two mountainside forests. As well as protecting the existing forest and allowing natural regrowth, we are planting a mix of native trees, thousands of them, to turn pasture back into forest.
The local community's participation in the project is an integral aspect, and the reserve includes a project of sustainable reforestation for future harvesting.
Cloudbridge welcomes volunteers and interns to assist with scientific research, tree planting, and trail maintenance.
There are three ways you can volunteer or do research at Cloudbridge:
- Research Intern: Contribute to one of Cloudbridge’s ongoing research projects (according to availability), or design your own project and methodology with guidance from the science staff.
- Independat Researcher: Propose and conduct your own research (no guidance needed).
- Volunteer: Help the reserve in a variety of ways, according to our needs, and your abilities and interests. This may include planting trees, trail or reserve maintenance, construction projects or assisting tourists.
