Volunteer at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area!

ORGANIZATION: California State Parks Foundation

Help remove invasive Italian thistle, horehound, viburnum, and olive seedlings growing on the popular Shady Trail near Mississippi Bar. This area has been cleared of larger invasive olive trees and an over-accumulation of downed woody debris over the last several years as part of fuel reduction efforts. This work which is beneficial to the natural environment in the long term, creates disturbed land in the short term where thistles and other non-native species love to spread. Plants can be removed by hand or with a small hand tool. Other restoration efforts may include dispersing woodchips, rehabilitating trails, and scattering piled debris.

Ages 10 and older are welcome (minors must be accompanied by an adult and bring a waiver signed by their guardian).

Please read the confirmation email carefully for meeting location details. We will be working in an area of the park that is located in Fair Oaks, CA.
