We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Counselor/Case Worker to join our team and provide essential support to the women and children we serve.
Position Overview:
The Counselor/Case Worker will play a key role in the lives of the women and children at our shelter by offering direct counseling services, case management, and advocacy. This position will focus on empowering clients to overcome barriers, access necessary resources, and work toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling: Offer therapeutic support to women and children, addressing a variety of emotional and psychological needs, including trauma recovery, coping skills, and life skills development.
- Case management: Develop and implement personalized case plans, ensuring clients have access to the appropriate resources and services (housing, employment, education, etc.).
- Advocate for clients: Help clients navigate community resources, such as legal aid, healthcare, job training, and social services, by providing guidance and referrals.
- Supportive services: Offer crisis intervention and provide ongoing emotional support to clients, fostering a sense of safety and trust.
- Collaborate with shelter staff: Work closely with other team members to create a holistic, integrated support plan for each client. This includes coordinating with volunteers, childcare providers, and other service providers.
- Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed and accurate case notes, ensuring compliance with shelter policies and confidentiality requirements. Provide regular reports on client progress and outcomes.
- Education and empowerment: Help clients set personal goals and build skills that will enable them to achieve long-term independence and success, including financial literacy, parenting skills, and job readiness.
- Community outreach: Connect clients with community resources, advocacy groups, and external support networks to foster their self-sufficiency and continued growth.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a shelter, social services, or case management setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and experience working with survivors of domestic violence, homelessness, or similar experiences.
- Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including women and children of various backgrounds and needs.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- A commitment to confidentiality and maintaining ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of local community resources and services is a plus.
- Must pass a background check.
