About Us:
The Grandparents Community Network is a dynamic organization focused on supporting
grandparents raising their grandchildren. We work to address the unique challenges they face and provide resources to empower grandparents in their caregiving roles. We are looking for a Subject
Matter Expert (SME) to volunteer their expertise and help us create an educational training program that will equip individuals to become effective advocates for grandparents’ rights and their families.

Position Overview:
As a Subject Matter Expert for our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Advocacy Training Program,
you will play a critical role in researching and developing curriculum designed to educate and
empower future advocates. This curriculum will focus on the challenges faced by grandparents
raising grandchildren, including the formation and impact of child welfare systems, family policing, and the disruption of the family unit. You will also explore why grandparents often lack parental rights and how policies and laws impact their ability to advocate for their grandchildren.

The training will be delivered online, and you will be responsible for presenting, teaching, and
coaching participants. We’re seeking someone with strong research, curriculum development, and teaching skills, as well as a solid understanding of policies, laws, and systems that govern child welfare and the judiciary process.

Key Responsibilities:
* Research & Data Analysis:
o Conduct thorough research on the history and current data relating to grandparents
raising grandchildren, including challenges, statistics, and existing solutions.
o Investigate the formation of child welfare, family policing, and Child Protective
Services (CPS), as well as the disruption of family units.
o Understand the legal and policy framework that affects grandparents’ rights, family
law, and the judiciary system as it relates to child welfare.
* Curriculum Development:
o Create a comprehensive curriculum based on your research to educate individuals
about the issues faced by grandparents raising grandchildren.
o Address key topics such as the formation of child welfare systems, the role of CPS,
family law, and the impact of policies on grandparents’ rights.
o Design training materials that will help participants understand how to advocate for
grandparents and their grandchildren within these systems.
* Program Delivery:
o Teach the developed curriculum through online platforms, ensuring that the
material is engaging, accessible, and understandable.
o Lead virtual classes, workshops, and discussions, utilizing a variety of teaching
methods (e.g., lectures, case studies, group exercises) to engage participants.
o Provide coaching and guidance to participants, helping them become effective
leaders and advocates.
* Advocacy Focus:
o Teach participants about advocacy strategies, including how to engage with
policymakers, navigate family court systems, and advocate for grandparents' rights.
o Address systemic issues such as family disruption, the need for changes to child
welfare policies, and the empowerment of grandparents as primary caregivers.

Qualifications:
* Extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of child welfare, family law, advocacy, and
social justice, particularly as it relates to grandparents raising grandchildren.
* Experience researching and analyzing data and statistics related to family systems, child
welfare, and children’s rights.
* Proven experience in curriculum development, particularly in adult education or advocacy
training.
* Strong teaching and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex
information in a clear and engaging way.
* Ability to lead online training sessions, webinars, or workshops.
* Familiarity with policies and laws governing child welfare, family law, CPS, and the judiciary
system is essential.
* Previous experience in advocacy, policy work, or legal matters related to family welfare and
grandparents’ rights is preferred.
* Passion for empowering communities, with a deep commitment to supporting grandparents
and families in need.

This Volunteer Position Offers:
* The opportunity to create and influence a meaningful educational program that will have a
lasting impact on grandparents and their families.
* A chance to work with a passionate team that is dedicated to creating positive change in the
lives of grandparents raising grandchildren.
* Potential for staff employment or contract opportunities upon successful completion of the
volunteer role.
* Flexibility to work remotely and manage your own schedule.
