826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. We invite you to join our community of more than 750 writing coaches, tutors, mentors, storytellers, editors, illustrators, and more!
Our Creative Writing Workshops are offered at our tutoring center on 3035 Washington Street in Roxbury, as well as other locations around Boston. These shifts focus on supporting students throughout the entire process of brainstorming, writing, and illustrating.
Volunteers will support students as they collaboratively write a story for publication. With staff support, roles will include typing, scribing, illustrating student ideas, and acting as a floater around the room to support students as needed. Volunteers will also help students as they write their own personalized ending to their story. By asking clarifying questions and encouraging creativity, each volunteer will help the classroom of students become published authors.
We encourage tutors of all backgrounds to apply, and we especially seek volunteers who identify as Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and/or multi-lingual so that our volunteers are more representative of the students we serve. If you are interested, please send an email to volunteer@826boston.org. We will be in touch with next steps.

Description
Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.
All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.
