A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who informs community groups about dementia by leading Dementia Friends information sessions. To become a champion:

· Attend one 3-hour Dementia Friends Champion training

· Lead an hour-long Dementia Friends information session once per month

o These will either be with groups that the Champion works with directly or at events scheduled by the Regional Coordinators

By becoming a Champion, you can:

· Connect with a group of leaders in our region that is working to develop an age- and dementia-friendly community

· Interact with other like-minded individuals

· Increase your knowledge of dementia and ability to interact with people living with cognitive changes

· Enhance public speaking skills

· Maintain your wellbeing

Description

Volunteering can look like:

  • Attending the monthly action team meeting either in person or on Zoom
  • Contributing ideas over email
  • Leading Dementia Friends Information Sessions as a Dementia Friends Champion
  • Advocating for people living with dementia and their care partners
  • Participating in one or more of our subcommittees:
    • Businesses
    • Community Spaces
    • Faith Communities
    • Medical Professionals
    • Transportation
