Cottonwood Lake Campground Ambassador

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

The Cottonwood Lake Campground is located next to Cottonwood Lake in the Salt River Mountains at an elevation of 7,000 feet, approximately 13 miles southeast of Afton, Wyoming. North Fork Creek runs near this site where pines and aspens offer partial shade. The lake offers great boating for smaller craft (there is no ramp available) and fishing for brook and cutthroat trout. Trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and ATVs begin within the site.

This role would be that of a campground host, and the ambassador would be someone who provides visitors with responsible recreation education and keeps an eye on overall conditions. Typically, the volunteer will greet visitors and provide them with information on how to camp responsibly; respecting stay limits, remembering to put out fires, pack out trash and dispose of waste properly. Other duties include improving signage, checking fire-rings for abandoned campfires and communicating area-specific needs and issues to a Forest Service supervisor.

Candidate will need to have their own RV/trailer for this role, and the ambassador will stay in a designated campsite at Cottonwood Lake Campground for the summer (no hook-up's available.) Potable water and a vault toilet are available at the campground. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible.
