Main Goals for Position:

VIP Park Ambassadors will enhance the visitor experience by staffing the memorial building, roving park grounds, and greeting and assisting at the visitor center information desks, providing them with valuable information about the park’s history and attractions. Additionally, they will participate in and promote park events, such as Abraham Lincoln's Birthday and Night Sky events, to enrich the community’s engagement with the park. Finally, they seek to foster a supportive environment by building relationships fellow volunteers and park team, thereby strengthening collaborative efforts in serving the public.

Opportunities abound as a Park Ambassador at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace! Are you excited about national parks or history? Would you like to share your enthusiasm with the public? This public facing role greets visitors and helps all visitors have a positive experience during their visit.

Position Duties:

• Greet park visitors and provide a warm welcome at the visitor center or memorial building.
• Offer information about the park, including orientation, directions, programs, events, and activities.
• Inform visitors about the visitor center and exhibit area, and initiate the park film.
• Provide accurate information on park history and the early years and life of Abraham Lincoln.
• Stock brochure displays to ensure they are well-maintained and accessible.
• Answer telephone inquiries from the public regarding park information.
• Operate office equipment as needed for daily tasks.
• Record visitor statistics to help monitor park attendance and engagement.
• Assist in the opening and closing of the building according to established protocols.
• As needed, provide crowd control, and other related duties as assigned.

• Indoor and Outdoor Options: Depending on the volunteer's role, they may work in designated indoor spaces or outdoors, aligning with their interests and activities.

• Seasonal Variations: The climate in Kentucky features four distinct seasons. Summers can be hot and humid, while winters are mild but can bring cold temperatures and occasional snow.
• Rainfall: The region experiences moderate rainfall, particularly in spring and early summer, which may affect outdoor activities and planning.
• Weather Preparedness: Volunteers should be prepared for changing weather conditions, with appropriate gear for both hot and cold weather.

Physical Demands:

• Mobility: Volunteers may need to walk or hike to different locations within the park, which can involve uneven terrain.
• Manual Labor: Depending on their role, volunteers may encounter physical demands such as lifting materials, setting up materials, or carrying equipment.
• Endurance: Working outdoors for extended periods can require stamina, especially during warmer months or while participating in community events.
• Adaptability: Volunteers must be flexible in adapting to both environmental and community dynamics, responding to visitors and weather changes as they carry out their activities.
