Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park hosts the annual Lantern Light Tours, an event where park visitors get a lantern and follow a luminary-lined path from the Visitor Center to the top of the Great Temple Mound (1-mile distance round trip). Along the way, they experience interpretive (educational) talks and see the Earth Lodge, Trading Post, and Great Temple Mound sites.
Lantern Light volunteers help facilitate the tours. Tasks may include setup and breakdown of luminaries, lanterns, tables, chairs, and popup tents; giving interpretive presentations on the history of the park; answering visitor questions; directing traffic; and other tasks as assigned.
The event takes place Friday and Saturday March 21 & 22 2025, Friday and Saturday March 28 & 29 2025.
Volunteers may volunteer one, two, three, or four days of the event.
