February 2025 99th St Community Garden Day
ORGANIZATION: Garden School Foundation
Please visit the new page to apply.
Come get your hands dirty with Garden School Foundation at our next Community Garden Day on Saturday, February 22nd from 9am-12pm!
Why: As a GSF volunteer, you'll play a indispensable role in maintaining our cherished school garden and an elementary school in South LA.
Who: Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children who care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve ten Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,200 students and their families each year.
What to Expect:
Together you'll work alongside GSF staff and school families to weed the garden, refresh mulch pathways, harvest, build new raised beds, and more!
After a morning of hard work and good vibes, we'll share a light lunch together (provided by our partners at Sprouts).
What's Required:
Volunteers of all ages and experience levels, from beginning to Master Gardener, are welcome.
We provide all the tools and training. All you need to join in is a desire to help out and a willingness to learn.
Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school-appropriate. Complimentary t-shirts will also be provided.
We encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sun protection.
There is free onsite parking in a lot directly next to the garden (enter from E Century Blvd).
GSF will have a table set up in front of the school where we will check you in and ask you to sign our Volunteer Waiver.
Our garden beds are ADA-compliant and parts of the garden are accessible to wheelchairs. Most of the pathways for the central garden are mulch.
