2025 Hartley Springs Campground Host

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Inyo National Forest is home to many natural wonders including Mt. Whitney, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes Basin, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Recreational opportunities include camping, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, fishing, equestrian use, and off-highway vehicle use.

We are seeking campground hosts to represent the Forest Service in a professional and courteous manner. Hosts are often the first Forest Service representative that guests will encounter. They interact regularly with the public during the day and need to be available to visitors. We expect our hosts to set a positive example by maintaining a neat, clean, and organized campsite area. Serving as a campground host provides an opportunity to be immersed in one of the most quintessential recreation experiences in America. Hosts are there to explain campground rules, record occupancy, and to help keep the campground clean. The general campground host season at Hartley Springs CG is June 1 - mid-September.

Campground hosts are responsible for assisting the Forest Service with the maintenance of campground restrooms and campground facilities. Maintenance responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning restrooms
  • Picking up trash in the campground and fire rings
  • Raking flammable materials away from fire rings
  • Maintaining/painting/posting signs and other infrastructure.

Hosts perform daily responsibilities independently without direct supervision. It is necessary for the camp host to learn the rules and regulations of the recreation area including campgrounds, day use sites, and the general recreation area. Camp hosts explain regulations pertaining to the campground.

The Forest Service will provide the host with a volunteer uniform. They will have a host site within the campground. There are no hookups available at the host sites, and cell service is limited.

Per diem reimbursement will be available for when campground hosts are on site and volunteering within the campground. Specific details will be provided upon interviewing or selection for positions.

RV/Camper Trailer is required. Trailer/RV limitations: 30 ft maximum.
