ORGANIZATION: Tech Trek of AAUW-WA

Dorm Monitors are responsible for a small group of Tech Trek campers. They provide emotional support and respond to campers’ questions and concerns throughout the week. Since Tech Trek is an overnight camp, Dorm Monitors may also be responsible for responding to homesickness or resolving conflict between campers.

Each Dorm Monitor will have a 'dorm group’ of eight to 12 girls. Dorm monitors will hold daily meetings with their dorm groups and keep track of their whereabouts throughout the day. They will accompany girls to campus activities and field trips and will be in charge of the enforcement of camp rules and policies. Most importantly, Dorm Monitors will form connections with their campers to make them feel safe and cared for. Dorm Monitors must be at least 21 years old.

About Tech Trek of AAUW-WA

Location:

1569 PARKSIDE DR E, SEATTLE, WA 98112, US

Mission Statement

Tech Trek Washington's mission is to engage 8th grade girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related topics. We know that most girls tend to lose interest in STEM in middle school, so we aim to nurture a love for learning all things STEM during a one-week summer camp. We hope that once a camper has left our program that have gained confidence in themselves and are passionate about STEM.

Description

Tech Trek WA is a one-week summer camp that is focused around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Campers will have the opportunity to stay on a university campus to get a college experience. They will stay in the dorms, have a meal plan, and attend hands-on classes that deep dive into STEM topics. In the past, we have dissected frogs, built thermometers, used computer coding problems, and extracted DNA from strawberries. This year, we are continuing to build on this work by creating another wonderful camp.
