POSITION: Environmental Impact Lead REPORTS TO: Pride Director, Community Engagement & Volunteer Services Manager COMMITMENT: Attendance at Pride Planning Committee Meetings; Pride Festival # OF POSITIONS: 1-2 SUMMARY: The Environmental Impact Lead is responsible for developing and implementing sanitation and waste management strategies that exceed minimum requirements to maintain a clean, welcoming, and healthy festival environment. This role oversees all aspects of waste management, environmental sustainability, and hazardous materials cleanup. It is a strategic leadership position, contributing to the development and execution of festival logistics to ensure a sustainable and environmentally responsible event. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Sanitation & Clean-Up Protocols: Develop and implement effective sanitation and clean-up protocols to ensure a clean and sanitary festival experience. 2. Oversight & Coordination: Manage cleanliness, sanitation, waste disposal, and environmental sustainability initiatives for the festival and march. 3. Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with Pride Director and Festival Lead to manage logistics for Waste Management and portable restroom vendors. Participate in the ordering, installation, and maintenance of waste receptacles and sanitation facilities (e.g., portable bathrooms, handwashing stations). 4. Volunteer Recruitment & Supervision: Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers for the Cleanliness & Sanitation Team to ensure adequate staffing throughout the festival. 5. Festival Logistics Integration: Become familiar with and contribute to contingency and safety plans covering major event components, including food, beverages, restrooms, accessibility, security, set-up, tear-down, check-in, exits, IT infrastructure, VIP areas, entertainment, media, and community engagement. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Commitment to the Organization: Passion for the Center’s mission and dedication to fostering an inclusive region where LGBTQ+ individuals thrive. Adherence to all organizational policies and procedures. 2. LGBTQ+ Community Awareness: Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues affecting LGBTQ+ individuals. 3. Historical Context Understanding: Awareness of the historical significance of Pride events and their importance in the LGBTQ+ movement. 4. Diversity & Inclusion: Ability to collaborate effectively with people of diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, gender, and cultural backgrounds in an intersectional environment. 5. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English. Training in conflict resolution or mediation is a plus. 6. Availability: Must be available for at least 80% of Pride Committee meetings, relevant subcommittee meetings, festival set-up and break-down, full attendance at the festival (June 8-9), and post-mortem evaluations. 7. Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team structure. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Festival Sanitation Experience: Previous experience managing sanitation and waste removal at large-scale events is preferred. 2. Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to manage and lead a team of 10 or more volunteers effectively. 3. Commitment to Equity: Dedication to anti-racism and racial equity principles. 4. Language Skills: Bilingual candidates (English and Spanish, ASL, Mandarin, Hmong, Hindi, Vietnamese, Tagalog, or Punjabi) are preferred. 5. Physical Requirements: This position may involve prolonged sitting/standing, navigating tight spaces, lifting objects up to 50 pounds, ascending/descending stairs, operating office equipment, observing festival activities, and using communication devices (e.g., radios, walkie-talkies). Reasonable accommodation is available for individuals with disabilities. 6. Background Check: A criminal background check is required. Convictions for violent crimes are disqualifying, but other convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. 7. Drug-Free Workplace: The Sacramento LGBT Community Center maintains a drug-free workplace. Volunteers reporting under the influence may face disciplinary action, up to and including termination. 8. COVID-19 Policy: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, documentation of an upcoming vaccination appointment, or an approved medical/religious exemption is required before the first day of service.
