Center for Health Care Rights (CHCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that runs the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) in Los Angeles County. HICAP is a statewide program that provides free and unbiased Medicare information, education, and counseling to people with Medicare and their families. All HICAP services are provided free of charge.

As a CHCR ambassador, you will share information about CHCR and our free HICAP services at health fairs, resource fairs, senior fairs, and other community events across Los Angeles County. By distributing informative materials at these events, you will help empower LA County residents to learn about their Medicare benefits and options. Applicants must complete brief training on Medicare topics and outreach strategies before participating in outreach events.

To join the Center for Health Care Rights' Ambassador Program, interested individuals are required to submit an application and attend a two-hour in-person training session at a location to be determined.

After completion of the initial training, CHCR Ambassadors can select events and shifts they wish to participate in within Los Angeles County through our online SignUp Genius form (provided during the in-person training session). Ambassadors may also choose to volunteer regularly or intermittently.

We are looking for:

  • Individuals who enjoy staffing a table or booth at outreach events and engaging in conversations with event attendees
  • Individuals who want to learn more about Medicare
  • Individuals who are willing to reach out to their local senior centers or other community organizations to promote CHCR services (including dropping off CHCR flyers)
  • One-time or ongoing part-time volunteers
  • Individuals who are bilingual in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Korean, Chinese, or Farsi
  • Individuals who live near or are willing to commute to the following cities in the San Gabriel Valley: Pomona, Duarte, Claremont, Diamond Bar

We are now recruiting volunteers to apply and go through the CHCR Ambassador Training scheduled for early Spring 2025!

NOTE: This volunteer opportunity is ideal for students or individuals with part-time or full-time jobs, as many events are scheduled during weekends or evenings.

MAJOR RESTRICTION: Individuals who sell insurance or receive gifts, compensation, or financial gain from insurers or Medicare in any way will not be considered for HICAP Volunteer positions.
