Mission Statement
The Veronica Blount Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease, the number one killer globally. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, the foundation aims to empower individuals to take charge of their heart health and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Description
The Veronica Blount Memorial Foundation’s goal is to address the healthcare disparities among those in underserved communities as it relates to heart disease awareness. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally, killing an estimated 17.9 million people each year. The Center for Disease Control and the American Heart Association lists heart disease as the leading cause of death in America, killing more women than all cancers combined. In fact, one woman dies from heart disease every eighty seconds.
Our goal is to create environments that are conducive to bringing awareness to heart disease. We have established ten unique programs that help us execute our mission. Our 1 For Every 1 Blood Pressure Monitor Campaign raises funds for us to give free blood pressure monitors to those in underserved communties. Hypertension is a leading cause of heart disease and having access to a blood pressure monitor can aide in prevention and ultimately save lives.
Our flagship fundraising event is the Annual Red Shoe Lunch which began in 2011. This event raises awareness about heart disease and has proven to be a very valuable platform for heart health awareness.
