Seeking Board Member candidates who are p assionate about and committed to the Parkinson’s community .
Position Overview:
The Board Member plays a crucial role in providing strategic guidance, governance, and oversight to Dallas Association Parkinson’s Society (DAPS). They contribute their expertise, network, and commitment to advancing DAPS’ mission and ensuring its sustainability and effectiveness. Additionally, they actively promote DAPS, our services, mission and raise funds to help secure a solid financial foundation.
Board Members serve approximately 1-2 hours/month, Board term is 3 years.
Responsibilities:
1. Governance and Oversight:
- Participate actively in board meetings, offering insights, expertise, and strategic direction. - Review and approve organizational policies, budgets, and major decisions. - Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including adherence to bylaws and applicable regulations. - Oversee DAPS’ financial health, including budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management.2. Strategic Planning:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of DAPS’ strategic plan. - Provide input on long-term goals, priorities, and initiatives. - Monitor progress towards strategic objectives and adjust as needed.3. Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Support fundraising efforts by leveraging personal networks, making financial contributions, and assisting with donor cultivation and stewardship. - Identify potential funding opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams. - Assist in diversifying DAPS’ funding sources and ensuring financial sustainability.4. Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Serve as an ambassador for DAPS, promoting its mission, values, and impact within the community. - Advocate for DAPS’ interests and priorities with policymakers, stakeholders, and the public. - Help enhance the organization's visibility and reputation through networking, public speaking, and media relations.5. Board Development and Collaboration:
- Participate in board orientation, training, and development activities. - Foster a positive and collaborative board culture, working effectively with fellow board members, committees, and staff. - Provide mentorship and support to staff leadership, where appropriate. - Serve on one of three committees: Marketing Committee, Governance Committee, or Development/Fundraising Committee.Qualifications:
- Commitment to DAPS’ mission, values, and objectives. - Ability to dedicate time and effort to Board commitments, including financial oversight, meeting attendance and community involvement. - Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in non-profit organizations or related fields. - Expertise in areas such as finance, law, marketing, fundraising, public speaking, community outreach or program management. - Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. - Ability to think strategically, analyze complex issues, and make sound decisions. - Integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.More opportunities with DALLAS AREA PARKINSON SOCIETY

Description
DAPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized in 1978 by Clarice Dougherty to provide support to those, like her husband, who struggle with Parkinson's disease. We provide free and low-cost resources to people with Parkinson's and their loved ones, including group exercise, speech/swallowing therapy, Dance for PD(r), care partner support groups, monthly educational/motivational meetings, and a monthly newsletter.
