We are Mentor A Promise (the "MAP"), a nonprofit organization providing social emotional learning, academic support and mentorship services to students experiencing housing instability in NYC.

MAP is seeking a investigative journalist to join our team. Come join us, a team of like-minded individuals working to make a difference in the lives of our students. Reporters will work together within the communication team
to produce rigorous investigative reporting from multiple angles. You will focus broadly on capturing the stories of education, homelessness, students and NYC. You will help us shape the public debate of the state of students experiencing housing instability. The ideal candidate is an experienced and team-oriented investigative journalist with a keen interest in public policy and an exceptional ability to communicate their reporting to a wide and influential audience of lawmakers, activists, fellow journalists, and concerned citizens.
Required qualifications
- Strong interest in investigative journalism
- A proven ability to source, investigate, and break significant stories.
- Dogged commitment to accurate reporting of the facts.
- A proven record of rigorous and compelling on-the-ground reporting.
- Strong media presence; comfortable doing TV, radio, and podcast hits in support of reporting.
- High degree of social media proficiency; capable of building a large audience for the team’s reporting and enhancing the reputation of MAP
- Willingness to travel as appropriate to events and hearings, conduct on-the-ground reporting, and interview potential sources.
- Team-oriented approach to reporting; a willingness to share by-lines and research and reporting with colleagues

Description
We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. We connect students with our mentors for in-person and online programs.
